Her fame grew as a figure skater when she was awarded the 'Skate America 1989'. Tonya, after being forced to leave figure skating because of the controversy in 1994, turned towards boxing. Tonya became a professional fighter at the time of 2003. In 2003, she became an official boxer. The fame she earned grew as she began appearing in shows and films. In 1994, Tonya was hailed as a star after her main rival Nancy Kerrigan mysteriously was assaulted in the days leading up to the National Championship. She used this recognition and popularity so well that she changed the landscape of female skating. In the year 2017, a movie titled "I, Tonya" was created to tell the story of her life and achievement.
